Droylsden Little Theatre is paving the way for the next generation of budding thespians by homing Manchester Theatre Academy drama classes.
At Manchester Theatre Academy, we offer something for the younger generation. So if you’re aged between 6 and 18 and have a keen interest in drama, why not come along to our friendly fun filled group, where you can learn a range of new skills, build your confidence and meet new friends!
We believe we have something special here at Droylsden Little Theatre, the venue simply couldn’t be better! With a contempory auditorium, a spacious stage and a fantastic team from the theatre to help with lighting and sound, students performing in shows with Manchester Theatre Academy will have a real live theatre experience with the star factor!
We try to do two shows on stage each year to give our students the chance to show off their new drama skills. Students come to us with different levels of experience and we aim to work with them and zone in on their unique talents, so they can be the best they can be.
Our weekly sessions take place on Saturdays during term time-
Junior group 6-10 years, 1.30pm.
Senior group 10 upwards, 2.45pm
We create theatre based on the interests of our students. The juniors have covered fairy tales, popular Julia Donaldson stories, space, Frozen and much more! Some of the children enjoy singing and so we introduce singing. It’s great for warming up the voice too! We always have fun with a range of skill building games and the children grow in confidence in our friendly relaxed atmosphere.
The senior group have been exploring different genres, doing improvisation and voice work. Again some of our students like to sing so we have included a song here and there in our shows. We have had some fun playing skill building games like ‘Doctor Damage’ and ‘Would I Lie’ and scenarios covering different genres. For our summer production, the seniors did a drama to give them a real challenge and they pulled it off in style!
We cover all aspects of Theatre including-
Improvisation- this is a great way to create drama and can be inspired through the use of props, music, poetry, a scripted line or current affairs.
Mask work- Using the mask can help actors develop the physical side of a character and train them to use their bodies more as opposed to facial expression and voice.
Voice work- We work on voice projection, which is a key factor for stage acting. We also look at ways in which we can alter our voices to show different characters and emotions.
Monologues and audition pieces- Many of our students are keen to build their confidence and acting skills in order to take part in performances. Working on set pieces gives them their moment in the spotlight and chance to work on an interesting character.
Prices work out at £3 per session paid on a termly basis.
