Development Work Update April 2009
Development Work By the time you read this, the extension will have been handed over to the theatre and all the scaffolding will have gone. I personally think the builder has done us proud, taking just over 12 weeks to complete the works. However, the works dont end there, as the following indicative program shows:
Structural alterations to bar/dressing room wall commenced on Thursday 2nd April, and will take a week to complete. This has already involved considerable disruption, as we have had to strip back electrics, seating, heating, fixtures & fittings, and then we have to put it all back together again. The remaining knock thrus have already begun from the extension side, with final breaking through to the theatre side taking place w/c 6th April. The containers on our car park, housing props & furniture will require emptying over the weekend of 4th & 5th April or possibly Easter weekend. (You may be getting a phone call to come along and help) The plan is to commence fitting out the extension over the Easter weekend, so that the extension can be utilized to access the stage for Stepping Out. The new dressing room, although most likely fitted out, wont be able to be used until the whole of the extension has been passed by Building Control. The new water main trench will be dug at the same time as the car park works are being undertaken. These works are expected to commence w/c 6th April and be complete in time for Stepping Out The new external metal fire escape should also be operational for Stepping Out The existing heating pipe work is currently being re-directed to accommodate the works, but once complete will mean the theatre is heated in 3 entirely separate zones, existing theatre ground floor, existing theatre auditorium and new extension. This means that each of these 3 zones can be independently controlled, thereby minimizing the amount of energy we consume. The bar area has become a temporary dumping ground, until such time as the extension has dried out sufficiently to move things into it. The toilets resemble a war zone, as heating & electrical alterations are taking place. I apologize in advance for all those using the theatre between now and Stepping Out for the state in which you may find it, however, I trust you will understand and support me 100% as we approach the most exciting and yet traumatic (from my perspective anyway) phase of the development works. I would just like to thank my current band of merry men, John Carroll, Tony Birch & Peter Helm for their hard work over last weekend and their even harder work yet to come.
