Review from the Tameside Reporter

3-for-1 is real value

There were thrills, disappointment and a triumphant ending at Droylsden Little Theatre (DLT) - and that was before they even reached the stage!
The popular group's May production of Stepping Out was cancelled halfway through rehearsals, when a professional company secured the rights to the play. But in the true spirit of community theatre, the hard-working thespians vowed that the show must go on.
With just weeks to go until opening night, DLT rose to the challenge. They ensured that their loyal customers weren't short-changed by offering three crowd-pleasing plays for the price of one.
The emphasis was on laughs, as a top team of performers served up a trilogy of terrific comedy.
When the cast of characters includes a mini-skirted and high-booted sex maniac and a gaunt and black-garbed homicidal maniac, you know plenty of titillation is in store. Housekeeper Wanted tells the humorous tale of long-suffering Victor, who advertises for a new housekeeper after breaking up with his wife. But he gets more than a spring clean when three women with lusts for blood, flesh and alcohol turn his life upside down. But even after witnessing the housekeepers of horror, he still has to cope with a visit from his wife.
Excellent comedy from Bernie Culshaw, Sue Stagg, Kirsty Henry, Debbie Concagh and Pam Starling pack laughter into every line.
DLT takes a sideways glance at the funnier side of amateur theatre for the last two acts of its night of entertainment.
World Premiere takes the audience behind the curtain to see a struggling theatre group rehearsing for their latest show. Sharp-tongued Sonia (Claire White) and centre of attention Stuart (Andre Bellemarre) are the highlights in a fun-packed story of egos, in fighting and incompetence.
Last Tango in Little Grimley caps off the evening with another humourous look at theatre life.
Gordon (Peter Larkin), Bernard (John Carroll), Joyce (Claire White) and Margaret (Jean Nicholson) are an amateur group facing their final act after years of failure. But when chairman Gordon hits on an idea to revive their flagging fortunes, hilarity ensues.
Laced with racy innuendo and strong language, the play is not for the weak of heart. But anyone with a well-used funny bone will be rolling in the aisles as the players decide that sex sells.
The three light-hearted plays more than make up for the late change in schedule for DLT. Depsite having their preparation time slashed in half, the word-perfect cast deliver another great evening of entertainment.
The three plays in one runs until Saturday, with performances starting at 7.45pm. To book tickets by calling (0161) 370 7713.
